Chicago, IL – Minimum Wage
Effective July 1st, 2024, the minimum wage will increase to $16.20/hour for standard employers, $11.02/hour for tipped workers, and $10.20/hour for tipped youth workers. The overtime minimum wage will rise to $24.30/hour for standard employers, $19.12 for tipped workers, and $17.70/hour for tipped youth workers.
The Paid Leave section of the notice has been removed.
A section called “Additional resources and contact information” has been added to the notice. This section contains the address to the Office of Labor Standards, the E-mail and phone number of the Office of Labor Standards, and a link to webinar recordings.
The notice now includes a QR code which employees can scan to learn more about each labor law.
Chicago, IL – Paid Leave **NEW NOTICE**
A new notice has been produced which explains paid leave policy in Chicago. The notice now states that paid leave is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 35 hours worked, when the Chicago Minimum Wage notice previously stated that paid leave is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Employes must be allowed to use paid leave no later than on the 90th day following the commencement of employment. Up to 16 paid leave hours can be carried over between 12-month periods.
The notice explains that paid sick leave is accrued at the same rate as paid leave, that employees must be allowed to use it no later than on the 30th day following the commencement of employment, and that up to 80 hours of paid sick leave can be carried over between 12-month periods.
The notice explains how medium and large employers must pay out paid leave upon termination of employment.
The notice contains various phone and web resources employees can use to file a complaint, access additional guidance, and learn more about labor laws.
Cook County Minimum Wage Ordinance
On July 1st, 2024, the minimum wage in Cook County will increase to $14.05/hour. (The minimum wage for tipped workers remains $8.40/hour.)
